Yard Trucks are vehicles designed for "spotting" semi-trailers in or around commercial freight yards. The yard truck is built to accommodate a hydraulic lifting fifth wheel, which allows the operator to move trailers without exiting the cab or "crank up" the landing gear.
Once the trailer has been moved to it's destination, the operator can lower the trailer back to the ground, and uncouple the fifth wheel without leaving the cab. A yard truck can normally move 3 units in the same amount of time that a standard truck would use to move 1 unit.
